In-Person, Instructor Professional Learning Community

Are you looking for an opportunity to network with other adult education instructors?

Do you want the space to consider application of the science of reading and inclusive instructional strategies?

This in-person, instructor professional community is meant to be a gathering place for all adult education instructors to meet, network, and learn together!

This PLC and all pre-work can be used to meet the Memo 62 PD requirements.

Location: 300 Arboretum Pl # 200, Richmond, VA 23236 

Pre-PLC To-Do:

Before attending the PLC, participants need to complete these pre-work items in order to build foundational knowledge of the topics for discussion. If you already watched or attended both webinars, you do not need to watch them again.

Participants will receive PD credit for completing these tasks in addition to attending the PLC!

Agenda:

  • 9:30 AM - 10 AM: Coffee and meet & greet (optional)
  • 10 AM - 12 PM: Science of Reading and Adults with Disabilities Workshop
  • 12 PM - 1 PM: Networking lunch sponsored by VAACE
  • 1 PM - 1:45 PM: Small group discussions (Instructor Facilitated)
  • 1:45 PM - 2:00 PM: Wrap up & send off

Science of Reading and Adults with Disabilities Workshop

During this two-hour workshop, instructors will review foundational information of the Science of Reading and inclusive teaching strategies in order to apply these strategies to adult learner case studies and identify next steps for application to their practice.

Objectives:

  • Review foundational tenets of Science of Reading 
  • Review inclusive instructional strategies for working with adults with disabilities 
  • Apply Science of Reading and inclusive instructional strategies to adult learner case studies 
  • Identify next steps for applying these instructional practices

Instructors will leave this workshop with 

  • tangible case studies that apply science of reading and inclusive teaching strategies to real-life adult education classrooms and scenarios
  • action steps for applying strategies to their practice.
